What is art is a question that causes many arguments.
Look at these two examples. Which do you think are art? And why?
Carl Andre was an American artist who used bricks in some of his art. When he displayed his art at the Tate it caused great anger. Do you think this is art?
Another controversial piece of art was by British artist Damien Hirst. He displayed a preserved shark at the Tate Modern. As the narrator says “it changed what he expected to see in an art gallery”. Do you think this should be shown in art gallery? Is it art?

They are both art because art is anything that people claim is art. Art doesn’t have to be done by artists or sculptors, it can be done by anybody at all.

It seems to me that they are both art and art can be anything in the world. Carl Andre was thinking some thing when he made that and I think we should all be very glad he made that piece of art.
