Your Favourite Art: Week 4 and 5

Hi all,

Thank you for sharing some lovely examples in the past weeks.

For the final two weeks I’d like you to research and share other pieces of art produced by the artists we studied so far.

CanĀ  you find another art work by: Reynolds, Gainsborough, Turner or Landseer and tell us about it.

If you can, you might get a star post!

  1. I really like this painting by Landseer because it looks like it has a great story behinde it and the background is really beautiful.

  2. I really like this picture of what I think is a lion cage in a zoo because it looks so realistic to me that whenever I look at this picture, I sometimes think I’m in a zoo, looking at a lions’ cage.

    1. we like the choice of painting we also like how the lion is on top like a king. Us two like how the man/woman is sleeping with the animals.

  3. I really like this painting by Landseer because it would have a great story behind it and the background is really beautiful.

  4. This is a painting by Landseer.
It is called Dignity & impudence. This painting shows a dog lying down on the ground.
We like this painting because of the choice of his colours, scene and the way he’s covered the whole space.

  5. This picture by Turner is a boat on the sea on a stormy night and I can imagine a ship out at sea in a storm and the people on it are desperate to get to land and in the morning, the sea calms down so the men can steer the ship back to land.

      Hi Danyal,

Thank you for researching Turner, finding another painting and giving us your thoughts on it. It’s interesting to compare this painting to the one we all studied.

  6. This painting by Lanseer shows the lions boldness as he hold his head high in pride.
Whilst he pensively takes a sip of the clean, fresh flowing water it waves its way down to the shore. While the lion stands his ground firmly on the damp, sandy riverbank exploding with curiosity and life.

Thank you Alex/Benny for researching Landseer for us and providing another picture. Do you think the landscape here is similar to the Hawking painting we studied?

  7. This painting from Landseer reminds me of a old dog that is very weak and not that strong and the little one makes me think about cuteness.

I think that if I had those dogs I would treat them very well because in the picture you could see smashed pottery all over there den it makes me sad.

Thank you for sharing this painting with us. This painting is also at Kenwood.
It’s actually dogs that are running beside them …What else can you see the painting?

  9. I like this picture because they use the colour’s that most artists wouldn’t use a bit like David Hockney even though David Hockney is a modern artist unlike Turners paintings.
When you look at it the Artists had clearly made it to really captured your feelings but i cant decide if its meant to be happy or not i wish that turner was still alive so he could tell us about it much better than books or the internet don’t you think?

Thank you for sharing this painting with us Marly. However I really enjoyed your thoughtful comments. You ask a very interesting question whether this painting should make you feel sad or happy. The distance seems hopefull while the foreground seems a haunting scene.

      I wonder what others think?

  10. I love the way in this Landseer painting that the animals and the women all seem to be enjoying themselves . Also the donkey looks as if its a human being with a donkey head.

It is called Titania and Bottom, from a midsummers night dream

      Hi Bea and Matilda,

Thank you for finding this painting and sharing it with us. Landseer has painted an image from a Shakespeare play and you’re right the donkey is human like as a person has been transformed by magic.

  11. We love paintings by Landseer because of the way most of his paintings are about animals and nature. We also wonder if he was popular in his day,we definitely think he should have been!
This painting in peticular brings us joy whenever we look at it for even though you can not see it we imagine the dog would be grinning and the frog would be frowning

      Hi Sophie and Tahira,

Thank you for sharing another Landseer painting with us. You’re right he is intrigued by animals. He used to dissect frogs etc at a very young age.

  12. I really like this painting by Landseer because it makes me feel lively and full of life. I chose this painting because it reminds me of how playful my cat was when she was a kitten.
