I really liked this poem since it really hits you with mixed emotions. I really loved how he said little hints of how he grew up. It’s really sad and heart breaking to hear how he grew up since he was most likely born in a quite poor country . It was sad to read the line ‘the living room you stayed out of’. Maybe that means his family didn’t care about him much.
I love your poem Kwame Alexander.I like how you describe what you had in your life and how you used that for your poem, it really describes your personality.

I think this is really interesting because at the start it says ”I am from black cadillacs” even though further down the poem it says sharing a bathroom with all my family. Love this poem.Bye!

i love the phrase i am iron black cadillacs because when we were discussing as a class we thought he was poor because of the phrase iron plastic covered sofas in tiny pink houses but then i found the phrase iron black cadillacs and sunday fried chicken and chocolate birthday cakes and iron Levys slacks and shiny white shoes this was very intresting to me and quite a unike poem
I really like the phrase I’m from plastic covered sofas because it sound like they are trying to use one item for as long as they can instead of just buying a new one which means that they are helping the enviorment.
Yes I think that’s right but probably not because of the environment but it’s more likely to be as they were poor.

Lovely poem Nevaeh. We get a real sense of who you are.
Laiyla: I like this poem because it talks about Muhammad’s life when he was young.
Hope:i like this because its interesting to hear about Muhammad’s life.
I love how this poem paints a picture in your mind of how his life was. I also love how it is so realistic about life! This is an amazing poem.
Even though it doesnt make sense it is an amazing poem .
WE LOVE THIS POEM because its got lots of fun information and lots of information and its very very very very VERY intresting
I agree i feel the same way about the poem
I realy liked this poem because it tells me alot of stuff about his life and hiw his childhood was and i loved that
I think this is a very cleverly formed poem and I belive Kwame Alexander has done an amazing job on Where I’m From.
I like this poem because kwame does not just put i am from america he uses “i am from black cadilacs” so i can tell that he is american because black cadilacs are an old american car so i can infer from that, that kwame is american
Great infering Romeo
What I love about this poem is that you can express yourself in many different ways and triky ways also he make the poem abstract and it make you paint a picture in your mind of how amazing of how his life was. In addition my favourite phase was “don’t say you can’t til you try “.
I like the way Kwame structured the poem man to man especially when he writes down his words, making the words go in the direction the characters moving with the ball in making it look very competitive.
I am from face masks and hand sanatiser
From baking and big familys
I am from sarcasom and fun
Im from urban landscapes
I am from busy streets and funny weather
From high flats
I am from brothers anoying me
From pizza and pasta

I am from be more lady like
And leave me alone
I am from big familys but small kitchens
Im from celerbrating together
From spending time with family
I thought that Kwami Alexander’s poem ( where I’m from ) was very informative and interesting. I think this because the poem is all about identity wich gave lots of information and he made sure to take note of anything of interest for instance “from black cadillacs” which where really popular cars in the 1960’s and he probably grew up seeing them quite alot. We really had fun exploring even more of Kwami’s poems such as: man to man and studied the graphic novel:the crossover!
I like this poem because it doesn’t just say i am from America 1960s it says i am from black cadillacs wich is a car from America and it was made in the 1960s . My favourite part was From don’t say you can’t til you try … because it is true you cant , like if you go climbing or dancing you have to try at least once before you can say you cant do it ,you can do anything if you try realy hard and practice
I like the way Kwame says dont say you cant till you try because it makes me think of how my parents always say that to me when ever i am struggling
I like how Kwame paints a picture in your mind and tells you his life in a poetic style(you could also make a photo album about it). He also talks about how he wasn’t rich (…”in tiny pink houses”) but his family was very caring(“…don’t say you can’t ’til you try…”).
I love the poem Where I’m From because Kwame Alexander explains someone’s life really well and I like the way he uses words such as cadillcs and levy slacks which tells me he is talking about things in the past. In the poem (Where I’m From)at the end it says ‘don’t say you can’t till you try’ which I think is really nice to end the poem. I love Kwame Alexander’s poem,ManTo Man because it talks about 2 brothers being competitive in basketball which is like a competition in real life. I would also love to read crossover which is a graphic novel by Kwame Alexander. Overall I love the poem Where I’m from and I recommend it.
I am from decorated drawers,
From glitter and pens,

I am from everyday ” I love you “,
And love that keeps your heart strong
I am from generous gifts,
Pleasent manners,
And heart warming hugs,
I am from ” don’t give up you can do it !”
Wonderful description of food and flavours. It made me hungry.
I found this poem interesting because it shows a kindnof photo album of Kwame Alexander’s life, and this poem gives us many referances of what time era Kwame was living in for most of his life and it also gives us a very good referance of what his lifestyle might have been such as rich or poor. This poem by Kwame Alexander and if he was cared for or not as a child. The style of the poem is also quite intersting using I am from and making a poem seem like a photo album and this isn’t a common style (atleast it wasn’t until where I’m from got popular).
I like this poem because of the quote it has which is “From don’t say you can’t’il you try ” this quote doesn’t just describe the person but also gives a word of encouragement for all of us .
We have been learning about the “Where I’m from” poem and I have really enjoyed this poem . It is very clever how he describes where he is from as he actually doesn’t really describe it but uses part of his life example “From cash and bird From story tellers “.
I like the peom”Where I’m from” Because its Like real life and the part “sunday fried chicken ” because It’s real on sundays u have fried chicken .

I like the way the author used onomatopia and different fonts to show who was talking in his book “The Crossover” (the poem called ‘Man to Man’) and that in the poem ” Where I’m from ” he used the term ‘ tiny pink houses’ and that made me realise that there aren’t that many houses in London, so I thought that he might be talking about being from America because there are lots of houses in some particular areas over there.
Where I’m from
I am from loud music
and odd socks.
I am from the midnight-black crow

The reason why I like Where I am from is because of how he uses little clues to find out the person who he is talking about and that he uses many nouns to tell you the year just like the first line ( I am from black cadillacs ).
