  1. Harlem
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it crumple like a peice of squashed paper?
Or does itburn like a chunk of crisp wood burning in a fire

    1. I really enjoyed this poem as it gives a majority of vocabulary and talks about this little boys feeling and the elderly feels the same way it also talks about simalarities

  2. What happens to a dream deferred?Does it explode like a firework?Or does it dry up like a raisin?Or does it blow out like a candle.

  3. What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it fly away like a balloon?
Or does it burn away and turn into ashes?
Does it stink like old milk?
Or taste sweet or sugary like a chocolate cake?
Maybe it floats like a feather
    Or does it freeze?

  4. What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it melt like ice cream on a hot summer day?
Or does it stay frozen on a winters evening?
Does it taste like chocolate or even mint?
Or does it have no flavour at all?
Maybe it will disappear as if it never existed
Or does it go pop and is forever out of sight?

  5. What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it drip like vampires blood?
Or does it fester like a rotten egg-
    And then fall?
Does it smell like mouldy cheese?
Or smell like flower and freshly pick fruit like a nice perfume?
Maybe it just floats away like a floating boat.
    Or does it sink?

  6. What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it fade away like a shadow?
Does it dry like rain on a sunny day?
Does it move like a powerful magnet, or does it stay still like a coin?
Does it sink like a rock in the sea?
Does it stay still like the wall?

  7. What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it go one night then come back the next?
Or is it real then a dream?
Does it smell like blue cheese?
Or hard and soft over an apple pie?
Or sag like a massive load?
    Or does it disappear?

  8. What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it come back or does it go away?
Does it rot and die or does it burn away?
    Maybe it just goes?
Or does it stay behind and never go?

  9. What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it mix like a cake?
    OR
Melt like ice cream in the sun?

    Does it boil like peas?
    OR
    Crust like a cut?
    Maybe it just sags
    Like a heavy load?
    OR
    Does it explode?

  10. What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it disappear in thin air?
Or fester like a mouldy meat and then it stinks?
    Should it drown in water?
Or chocolate and wheat over like chocolate cereal?
Maybe it would run and never come back?
    Or would everything end?

  11. What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it rot like mould in a dark corner?
Or does it fry like chicken and chips?
Or will it be forgotten like a bad piece of music?
Or will it be eaten like a black widows husband?
Or maybe it just sits there waiting to be dreamed?

  12. What happens to dream deferred?
Does it freeze like a Popsicle in the freezer?
Or burn like a cake mix in the oven and then cool down?
Does it rot like smelly old socks?
Or freshen up and become a designer like a vintage one?
Maybe it just sags like a heavy load.
    Or does it vanish?

  13. Does it go away like fog in the sky?
    Or does it fly away
In the sky like a bird?
    And leave you?
    Does it make noise?
    Like a drill

    Does it annoy you?
    Or does it think?

  14. What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it sink like a car in a sea?
Or does it trifle on a tree
Does it cry like a baby?
Or fraction of dream crackle away?
    Maybe it’s just there
    Vanishing like my granddad
    Or does it explode?

  15. What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it melt like a fab in the hot, hot sun?
Will it be a forgotten piece of music?
Or will it haunt you like a bad taste.
Or will it be sitting there for ever
    Or will run away.

    1. HI Liam,

Some fantastic similes here..I really enjoy the melting fab with the repetition of “hot” and the forgotten music.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

  16. Said the little boy “sometimes I forget.’’
Said the old man “I do that too.’’
The little boy whispered “I have dyslexia.’’
“I have that too’’ sighed the old man.
Said the little boy “I often lose things.’’
The old man nodded “so do I’’
“But worst of all it seems that no one will teach me how to do my shoelace.’’
And felt the wormth of a wrinkled old hand.
“I know what you mean’’ said the little old man.

  17. What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it smell like dogs breath?
Or taste like a burnt biscuit then melt?
Does it disappear into thin air?
Or does it taste chewy like a strip of gum?
    Maybe it just withers away.
    Or does it explode?
