  1. I found the painting very interesting, particularly the funeral procession on the Thames.
Some people in my class thought it had international spices on board, whilst others thought it may have contained money or something to do with royalty because of the rich and vibrant colours.

    1. I think the middle part is the best place to live because when the water becomes ice wecan go down the ladder and go ice skating and it’s epic.

  2. I like the way he made the way clear that one side it looked richer as of the stone houses also the height of them made a real difference.

  3. It’s weird not many people are crossing the Thames as people wouldn’t cross the bridge (it was the only bridge over the Thames ) because it was narrow so people could get pushed off (by accident or on PURPOSE!!!)and there is only 6 boats crossing not including the funeral procession.

  4. I loved the way De Jongh showed both sides of the river and has made many areas of detail and attention to the style and making of the old houses in 1630. He has also left a landmark, The Tower of London, to show the reality of his painting being old London. He also made a good argument on the best place to live, north, or south of the seventh try to build London Bridge.

  5. I think that the left side of the painting is where all the business happens and where the rich people live, because the houses have balconies and are made of stone. The bridge is where the not so rich people live but also the not so poor because the houses are made out of stone as well as wood. The right side of the bridge is probably poor because it looks a bit run down and dirty.

  6. I think it is a really interesting painting because there are lots of things to look at and it is in london wich is where I live.

  7. I like this picture because it has the poor on one side and then the bridge and after that it has the richer side!

  8. A fun painting, London looks so different! I love hoe they have 3 different parts, the left side, the right side and the bridge.

  9. I’ve learnt lots during the past week. I enjoyed studying this picture because I think his view is amazing. I was mainly working on the right hand side because I made my ad on that side. The two sides are very different because one represents the rich and the other the poor.

  10. Hi everybody!
I really like this painting because I have mixed emotions for this painting:

My emotion for the left hand side is that I have total HATRID for them, because they just carry on shopping to their hearts desire, while they KNOW that on the other side, everyone is living in small huts where their beds are by their dinner table!

I find the funeral boats creepy. Do you?

  11. We really liked this painting because it shows two different, contrasting sides of London, and how people are separated according to their wealth.
Josie would rather live in the City of London to experience a wealthy life style.
Orla would rather live in Southwark because she would feel a bit more safe and because it is better to work outside than having to stay in all day.
William would rather live on the Bridge because it has the heads on spikes to warn off criminals.
We also loved the way the bridge is reflected on the water.

  12. Here is Chianna’s persuasive poster trying to convince us to live on the bridge itself!

    1. I disagree with you Chianna because you could be pushed right into the water or even worse you might not be able to swim. Yes I know the rich side chop off criminals heads but they do it for a reason and that reason is so you don’t have naughty criminals running around doing bad things.

  13. I really like all the pictures but the most is
the bridge because in one side is poor and
    the other side is rich
    I really like all.

  14. Amsterdam 1670
    Dear Diary,

Father woke me this morning at 6am because a very famous artist was coming to the house. I was so nervous I didn’t even want breakfast, even though it was my favourite – bacon and eggs! Mother was a bit cross about that but she let me off the hook as it was a special occasion. I got really excited when I saw the new frock that I was going to wear.

He finally arrived and when I opened the door I saw a grim-faced man with a pointy nose. I was frozen at that moment because he was so tall and intimidating. Just then my dog brushed past my legs and his warm, fluffy texture helped me to relax a little. As soon as he stepped inside, everyone welcomed him and his equipment invaded the house.

He asked me if I had anything I wanted to hold when he was painting so I hurried upstairs to get my guitar ready for the portrait. I was horrified because I couldn’t find my guitar in its case but I rummaged around a bit and managed to find it. When I got back downstairs he was mixing the colours and he put a canvas on his easel. He told me to sit on a chair right underneath a painting. He started bossing me around because my head wasn’t at the right angle. This annoyed me a bit. Finally I got the right angle and I smiled as Grandad appeared at the door.

He started painting with his long, silky brush and I sat for what seemed like hours before he finished. I wonder where the painting will end up?
