Week 4 Character Perspective

Hi all,

We hope you enjoy studying Mrs Tollemache as Miranda.

Your challenge is to chose one of the Shakespearean characters and write from their perspective. I wonder who you will chose?

  1. When I was looking around, I saw one of the cutest, charming prince in my whole entire life!!!As soon as I looked at him, I felt extremely shocked – I have never seen someone as cute as him…never ever ever!

I could not believe that my dad will be cross at me for seeing a precious, gorgeous prince that I’ve got to say looks better than my old, uncool dad .My dream now, will be to marry someone as cute as him or maybe him instead of a different prince. Now I really wish to marry him,as…HE IS SO GORGEOUS!!!

My dad is very very evil or should I say my dad is extremely evil (as evil as a goblin). In Fact, even as evil and meaner than a green goblin. As evil as cruel witch. I’ve got to say, my dad is brave, for example, a giant trying to stamp on him with his big, smelly feet. Also, the giant had very big claws as pointy as a sharp knife or should I say wood cutting knife if there is such thing as that.

In Conclusion, I always (from now on) will dream/wish to marry that gorgeous, handsome prince.I can’t believe, I said that he looks better than my old, uncool dad.

    1. Yazmin,

We really like some of the vocabulary you have used, for example, gorgeous.
We also like your use of similes.
We think you could improve your writing and make it even better by using ‘Father’ instead of ‘Dad’ and synonyms for ‘evil’ and ‘cute’.

  2. Dear Diary,
You would not believe what happened to me today, as I was walking I saw a young handsome boy, standing in front of me! He had flawless skin, his eyes sparkling like the sea. Everything around me seemed to fade, his brown, silky hair like wood but only smoother. He looked like my father but younger.

    Miranda

  3. Today for the first time I saw a real boy except my dad and Caliban . When I first saw him I had a weird feeling in my tummy . I started to fall in love. His blue shining eyes took me away, but I was also cautious. What is he like? What is his name? There are so many questions . He also looked so so strong and handsome. What will my dad think of it all , I don’t know.

  4. Fortuitous, fortuitous, fortuitous, today was the most terrible day of my whole entire life! I was walking on the seashore, when out of the blue, a mysterious, handsome, young man appeared. Oh, how angry I was then! Why oh why did this have to happen today when everything was going so well. It isn’t going to plan; all it is is a disaster

Despite being my beloved daughter (Miranda), I was furious with her, looking at that puny prince! This is humiliating, my daughter seeing another man and the lies I told her about me being the only man alive. It isn’t going to plan. My plan was that if I told her, yes Miranda, that I was the only man alive she would love me forever but now i’m the jealous one. In addition to having a disastrous day, my little princess now loves another man! It is a day I will never, ever forget – not in a good way but a bad way. Where in the world does he come from? Pluto or something…

I hate that pathetic, lamentable geezer! If I had 3 wishes, they would be:
Get him out of here (the prince)
Let me tell Miranda the truth
Forget about it and erase all Miranda’s memory from every since before she saw him
I have a very good sense that he, the prince, may have came from the sinful, wicked ship of people. All I thought he look kind and thoughtful to my daughter, he was an evil spy who had no rights to be on this island. This island was not big enough for the two of us. Soon he was going to get what he wanted. A strike by a thunderbolt. HE HASN’T BEEN WELCOME HERE!!!

In conclusion, I must banish this goblin-like man. He may seem like the perfect husband, but inside I can sense the evil boiling inside this punny, little charmer! How would you like it if a random stranger came to your home (basically like my island).

  5. I was confused at first when I saw the man. I didn’t know if it was a strange creature but then I realised he was the same kind as my father. Caliban seemed to feel a bit between surprised and angry, I don’t know.

I don’t know what made me but I walked towards him, I felt crazy. The man turned towards me, with love and shock at the same time. But then my father, Prospero, grabbed me by my shoulders and pulled me behind a rock.

I asked him what he was doing because that is the first other man I have ever met apart from my father, I thought my Dad would be pleased.

  6. I was frozen still on the spot. I couldn’t understand what this being was. Was he a spirit? Was he a God? Was he a human from the Underworld. No, his clothes were too fine to be a spirit of the Underworld but not so fine that he could be a God. He was wet, very wet. Maybe he was a sea monster rising from the depths below the surface. Well, he definitely wasn’t like Father but definitely was not so ugly that he could be Caliban. So what was he?

  7. I am a troll and she is a human. Miranda is too young to marry. He is wet and soggy. He is going to say, “You are too ugly to be Miranda’s friend! So you cannot be her friend.” Please can you not go near him? He is too old for you. You don’t know how old he is.

  8. The Tempest

The thundering storm, which violently rocked the boat, made me jump. Great, I thought, my revenge on my spiteful brother Antonio has come at last. The waves, which were taller than the ship, billowed noisily. Not forgetting what I had to do, I steadily walked to my dear daughter Miranda. The beautiful young girl knew that she and her father were the last people on the almost sunken ship, she was sitting on the polished wooden deck of the boat, as it began to sink into the deep, dark abyss. “Come my dear,” I said calmly, and I placed my warm, comforting hand, on her cold as ice skin. A moment later we apparated to a nearby island.

Miranda fell asleep in my arms, so I placed her fragile body on a nearby rock. The next morning, I went for a walk with Miranda around the island and explained the situation to her. “Daddy, why would you do such a thing!” exclaimed Miranda, but before I could reply, Caliban came strolling it view. “Ohh my dear slave Caliban has arrived,” I said wondering what his reaction would be. “I’m not your slave,” declared Caliban who looked extremely vexed. “Who is he father?” said Miranda dreamily. I turned around to see Miranda, who was looking at a tall, muscular bloke who was searching for food around the island.

  9. The Tempest

The tempest is messy and brutal. I got revenge on everyone by throwing them off their boats and washing them to my island. As I gazed around the island, I could see crystal clear, shimmering water. My daughter, who was the only with me on the island, was looking at the shipwreck. Suddenly, I noticed some people swimming ashore.

As soon as someone approached our island, I hid behind a tree but my daughter, Miranda stayed where she was. Two seconds later, a young man approached Miranda and said, “Where am I? Who are you?”

    “I’m Miranda,” replied Miranda.

“Ferdinand,” murmured the young man and backed away. I couldn’t help but step away from the tree, so I did slightly. Ferdinand drew his sword and pointed it at me and looked at me in disgust. “Who are you!?”

    “I’m Miranda’s father,” I replied.

Two weeks later, Ferdinand told me that he was going to be married to Miranda. I was absolutely shocked. My daughter, who I had raised for twelve years, was going to be married to a stubborn young man and leave me.

  10. Here is our class description of Miranda’s perspective:

I’m so shocked! I have just seen a mysterious figure. He looks nothing like my father. He has red hair and a long cloak, and looks very tired and wet. Did he come from the ship? I don’t think so, because my father destroyed it using his magic, and made the ship sink to the depths of the sea. There have never been any survivors before. What is he? Is he a spirit? Is he a god? Is he the ghost of a man from the ship? Where has he come from and how did he get here? His clothes are torn and wet so he must have survived the storm. I think he looks rather charming as well as calm, and also a trifle handsome. I wonder if he has seen me, but I’m still scared of him, I hope he doesn’t want to hurt me. Father looks worried and possibly a bit angry, whilst Caliban, as usual, is muttering to himself and probably in a daydream. Why is he here and what does he want? I hope that I can meet him.

  11. The Tempest
A raging wind blew and waves crashed against a jagged cliff. High-velocity rain fell; the sea churning and blowing underneath its frothy cover. That very moment, a small wooden ship blew into sight. I watched, stunned, as father stood silently beside me. In the distance, shouts and cries were heard, and the small wooden boat sank. Five tired and bewildered looking men staggered to the shore, their clothes dripping wet with sea water.

‘Fall asleep now darling!’ said Father, his soft warm arm acting as a pillow for my head. I seemed to feel my eyelids dropping, and my breath getting deeper and deeper. When I awoke I found a creature approaching my bed chamber. Who could it be? Screaming energetically, I ran to my father.

‘Is it a spirit?’ I asked, quivering.

‘Why no child, he eats, he sleeps, he drinks – he is man.’ Father explained, nodding.

‘Alright, if I must.’ I responded and ambled towards the man. ‘What’s your name?’

‘Stay away, Stay away!’ he cried, one foot stepping backwards and hovering of the cliff edge.

‘You must watch yourself.’ I said, and pulled him kindly towards my father. His snobbish attitude and bushy eyebrows turned me off completely.

‘I would like to welcome you to the island with great honour. I am Prospero and this is my darling daughter, Miranda.’ Greeted father. The man, softening at this introduced himself.

‘My name is Ferdinand, my ship was wrecked and I was shown here.’
