    Dear Mr Potter,

I am writing to tell you how much I enjoyed hawking with the Duke of Oxfords hunting party.

Yesterday, l woke up with exhilaration as it was going to be my first time out hawking; kind Widdington had promised that we would go the day before. I put on my best hood and fanciest tunic and completed my outfit with leather boots and brass buttons. My belly was full of butterflies so I only had a few grapes and a slice of bread for breakfast.

I could see two birds fighting. Silhouetted against the harsh sun. One, of course, was our own tame hawk, but the other was a free heron. The flapping of the two birds caused a breeze to blow against my face and an unnerving twinge of excitement shot up my spine as I knew one would soon be dead.

By dinner time, we had caught three plump white rabbits, five fattened pheasants and one spectacular grey heron. The cooks had been commanded to use these game birds in the feast which was to take place that same evening, after the tournament. Sir Lancelot won first place in everything by a mile. The feast was delicious!
I implore you to come to the next hunting trip and watch the games as Sir Lancelot is the finest lance wielder in these parts.

    Yours sincerely,
    Lord Edward

    1. I like how you tried to use different openers in your piece of work. Keep up the good work.

What a tragic sight me and the boys saw.We were just ryding our horses near the glistering sea and looking for foxes until we heard a loud squack. We ride our horses and saw the most badest fight in the world.First we thought that they were humans but they were birds. Everybodywas laughing and thought it was so good but I thought it was a horrible habit for another bird to hurt a bird like that.why would people train bids to do that?

I started getting upset and then I started to get to like it .Well only for a while! Until the heron got sadly past away.Ihated watching that because I know that a hawk is a beautifull animal and I would never want to hurt it or another animal but I started to cry for that poor bird and I ride of to camp and lye my streasfull head for the night.

    Dear Sir,
Yesterday I traveled nine miles to see the hawkers, it was not what I expected. I thought it would be fun to watch but I was wrong: it was horrible! There was a magnificent heron flying gracefully in the sky until the hawkers freed their hawks and killed the beautiful bird. I tried to stop them but no one listened. I couldn’t bear to see an innocent bird perishing because of my kind.

I will speak to the king as soon as possible.

    Dear Grandma,
Today I saw a terrible tragedy happen. Up in the beautiful bright blue sky I saw a heron swaying from tree to tree. When along came a hawk and started speeding towards the heron. Knowing its fate , the heron started trembling with fear. Clumsily, the heron flew madly around in circles. The hawk , taking it’s chance ,sped towards the magnificent creature
    (the hawk).

    Dear Father,
It was a long and hard walk to the place, and we were extremely tired when we got there. Whilst we were preparing I was feeling a bit nervous because I did not want anyone to get hurt and I wanted the birds to do a good job. I was also tired because of the long walk. Lastly, I was proud and happy that we got to preform there.

Then we relised the hawk and the hawk went flying threw the air. I was curious about what the bird was going to do, what its going to find ,what its going to bring down with it. I was happy and proud because my bird has just flown into the sky at full speed and flown right into this big heron and brought it to the ground.

On the way back we had to walk again but because everyone was so entertained and amazed at how the bird performed know one reilized it was such a long walk because they were all talking so much about the amazing hawk. I was amazed at how that bird took that heron down and also know one got hurt and the hawk did well.

  13. THE MANOR OF NORFOLK
    THURSDAY 19TH MAY 1735
    Dear Grandpa,
Today we went on a journey so we left the manor and we didn’t know how long it would take. When we first started it was burning hot but when we arrived it was night time. We went through woods, up hills and many other places. And we went past some animals and we had time to chat.
When the hawk was released my heart skipped a beat. The hawk never stopped and we cheered him on. The horse went ballistic because of the hawk fighting against the heron.
At last the hunt was finished and we went back. I hoped that the king would be happy. Also I asked if we would have heron for dinner. In the end it was a relief to get back.

    Dear Father
It was a tiring day walking from the camp off to the hunt. It all started up the hills from the camp and then we walked up to the lanes. After that we walked through the quiet woods. Felt nervous that something might go wrong.
It was a great battle for the kill. When the hawk was released and I was wondering what the hawk could do. I was happy of the hawk slayed the heron in mid-air.
This was an epic battle for the kill and I was exhausted by walking back and I was hungry for this tasty heron and proud of the trained hawks. I was looking forwards to this lunch.

    Dear Charles
Today was a long and tiring day. We trekked across fields and hills, we waded through swamps and marshes but eventually we got to the top of the highest hill, were the hunt took place! Everyone waited for a few minutes and then it came. The heron had arrived right on schedule!
The release of the bird was magnificent. As the hawker lifted his arm and whipped off the falcons hood it shot into action. You could see blood spewing from the body of the heron but eventually the falcon took it out of the sky, it was dead!
Looking forward to a big dinner I kept on glancing back at the well trained falcon. We started a long walk back over mashes and swamps, hills and fields but eventually we got back.

Yesterday I went out with the cadger and we hunted with a hawk. We walked past hills, woods, lanes and finally the cadger and I got there .I was so nervous but excited because I had never seen this method before.

We were setting the field and ready to send the hawk for its prey. After minutes we were ready my heart thumping I had no idea if I should watch “Ho”!! the Baron called out. I opened one eye and then the other I was amazed by the speed of the hawk the battle with a heron commenced I was horrified at the cruelty .

    Dear Mother,
Today has been a long tiring day. We went miles away to see the Hawk attack the Heron. We walked across fields and I was so excited to see the Hunt but it took ages to get there but it was worth it.
The Hunt began when the Hawk was released, I was worried the Hawk would get injured but the battle began. Everyone cheered for the Hawk, The Heron was getting injured and soon it fell to the ground and everyone was cheering so much they had to stop and breathe.
The battle finished the Hunt was successful. I was happy and hungry I wondered if the Heron would be served. I was sorry for the Heron but it’s what everyone wanted. Everyone looked at the Hawk while it flew through the sky then it landed and the hood was put on and the day ended.

    Dear Mother and Father

We had to walk across fields, hills, woods and lanes to get to the place to see falconry. I was very tired of the long walk. But I was excited to see falconry for the first time ever. I wanted it to start soon but the cadger was still coming up the hill. I wanted it all to go right. The cadger got the hawk there just in time.
I saw the hawk set off like a rocket! I was amazed by the speed of the hawk and curious of what was going to happen next. It was catching a heron. I felt horror of it killing the heron but hoped the hawk would catch it. The poor heron was ripped apart.
I felt hungry and asked myself will the heron be eaten? I felt a bit sorry for the heron. But otherwise we would be hungry. There was a big feast when we got back of heron, a pig, vegetables and wine. It was a great day.
    From your loving son,
    Adam

    1. I really like how you have shown all the different emotions the character is feeling while seeing the hawking.

  19. It was a really great day for hawking. This journey was short and I was interested by the landscape. When he flies, it is one of the most beautiful sights that I have seen. I have never seen a bird like this in my life. This is the best bird that I have seen. This is the world’s strongest bird that I’ve seen in my lifetime. I thought this bird was going to die because it was small. Did you know it would be a difficult journey because of the hills. I wish my cadger does not do any damage to my prized hunting hawks. It has taken years to get to this level.

The fight between the hawk and the heron was amazing – the hawk won. When the hawk was in the air, he charged to attack the heron. This is because it was his prey. The hawk did a powerful knockout on the heron. The heron’s legs were facing skywards because he got a really good knockout. This means that the hawk is more stronger than the heron. You could even see bits of blood which are on the heron which means that he got badly hurt. The heron was badly hurt because the hawk CRASHed into it.

  20. It was a perfect day for hawking! Our journey was short and fun. I just could not wait to take the hood off my hawk. As I took it off, the hawk shot up into the blue sky like fireworks. This was the world’s greatest sight. It took me years to be able to handle a hawk! I have been waiting for this moment since I was a little kid. Nobody has had an experience this marvellous in their life. I can’t believe that I had a chance to explore what it is like to be around hawks.

The fight between the hawk and the heron was incredible. I just could not believe my eyes when I saw that my hawk had beaten the ferocious heron. When I saw that my hawk beaten the heron, I stood there in shock. The only thing that surprised me was how my hawk beat a heron. Because the hawk was so strong, it left the heron turned upside down. The heron didn’t stand a single chance against the hawk. When i saw the blood dripping from the heron, I knew that this could only end one way!

I felt shocked and relieved that my hawk was brave enough to go up against a heron. The shock that I had experienced was incredible. I couldn’t of said how pleased i was with my hawk. I felt so surprised that my hawk beat the heron. My hawk made me so proud that I stood still for at least three minutes. Surprisingly, I have never been this amazed in my entire lifetime. At the same time, I also felt sad for the heron because he lost his whole life just for fighting. This was the best feeling ever.
