that sounds exciting
I enyoded this art peace because like bridges
I REALLY like how they painted the bridge it looks so realistic!
I agree it looks so realistic with the reflction on the water at therst I thought it was the photo copeya!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it is a brilliant painting even though it is really old
I could never do something that good!
Hi Freddie, not many people can create a painting of this quality but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be proud of your own art.
I like the details on the bridge and some of the buildings.
I love it, its so artistic
I really like how the painting is really realistic.
Also the water looks so seefrough.
Is there only one?
One bridge?
I was surprised by the fact that there was little bright colour in the painting of Old London Bridge.
Isn’t it cool?! Did it draw you eye to the bright colour within the painting? Do you think the artist has done this for a reason? Do your eyes jump from one thing to the next when looking at this painting? 🙂
Lucie-Kenwood House
I like the red boat because its was a wealthy color on the north on the non wealthy it was south
I have never seen a more realistic painting in my life
I love the painting so much because it has a lot of detail and effort.
I have never seen a building on a bridge before.
Thank you Esra. Yes it’s incredible.
I like your painting you did an amazing job at it you done a really great job and the houses look good it looks big i like the bridge to i might be scared if i walked a bridge (:
but i hate the dirty ness.
Thank you Ayaan and yes it would have been very messy. I think you can imagine what people would have thrown into the Thames!
Wow thats an amazing painting
im impressed
I think that the some buildings would flood some times since the ones on the left are one water. But the buildings on the right are not on water they are on ground
like I said before
Im impressed
I enjoyed it because we got to learn about the past but I want to learn more about the Bridge because it sounds cool and it’s a cool bit in the picture. In the picture the London Tower is behind the tall building on the left. I wanted to know if the houses would flood and if I would live there I would live in houses on the left because those houses look cleaner then the ones on the right.
Hi Pelin, perhaps you could learn more about London Bridge. There was a video about London’s bridges in the PPT you studied.
Also The Tower of London isn’t really where it’s seen in the painting. The artist decided to add it in.
Is there anything in particular you would like to know about the paitning? We can try and answer any questions you have… 🙂
I have never seen a peace of art like this before.
You could see it in person soon. The house will be open from 17th May, you can visit for free with your adults if possible. 🙂
I love the painting , so much effort. I never see a building on a bridge .
Thank you Brianna. That’s an important point that creating a painting like this takes considerable time.
its an nice pitcure its super realistic and i like it it looks like from the 1630s i notice that the bridge is a bit broken plus im impressed from the passed im mind blowed
Thank you Mikail. Yes it is very realistic. Almost like a photograph.
the painting is amazing there is so much detail
the picture is really good
I agree! It has got to be one of my favourites at Kenwood House… 🙂
I like this painting, I looks realistic.
this painting is so good.It has a lot of detail
i love this painting. its so realistic.
i like how the painter has reflected the buildings on the water.
I agree, it’s very clever! It is also easy to try and do yourself… have you tried sketching reflections in water? 🙂
This is really good. It has a lot of detail on the bridge .Morpeko is right
I really like this picture and enjoy writing about it! I’m excited to write more. 😀
That’s great to hear Carmen. We look forward to reading your writing.

Hi Cecily, I think it’s about trying and trying again with art and you slowly improve. Don’t give up!
So do I! 🙂
However, it doesn’t stop me from making art… I enjoy making art because it feels good and is a way to express myself, have fun and also relax. Do you enjoy making art?
I love the painting.
I find it so realistic.
I cannot believe that the painting was carved in wood.
It was painted on a wood canvas I believe.
Yes that’s right! 🙂
This was an epic painting ,so much details!
I think it is from 1600s.
This painting is amazing. I like how it compares the two sides of the bridge.
i like this peace of art because of how the artist has made the bridge reflect off of the water and i like London Bridge because it is very interesting.
It is so creative and I like how the painter has made it so realistic!
The art looks so real, amazing and epic. It has a lot of hard work and good practicing and its definitely the best art i’ve ever seen.
Beautiful piece of artwork has amazing detail. The reflection in the water looks almost real! I love his style of artwork, It must of taken very, very long. It looks a lot like the 1630’s!
I am amazed. It is so realistic for a panting!
Thank you Theo. Manny pupils seem to be struck by how realistic the painting is.
I think this art is beautifully detailed
The water is the best part in my opinion,
It almost look real!
I think the painting is incredible,
I like the right side because it has a incredible William Shakespeare theatre.
I also really like the reflection on the water of the bridge .
I agree Lettie. The reflection is a brilliant detail in the painting.
I think think the left side ‘cos the left side is rich. It is rich because the houses are made of brick. it is near fab markets and has a great view on the river.
The bridge may be old and crooked but it looks beautiful in that master painting.
i loved the painting it was inspiring and a big inspiration for me because I
love drawing and this painting was incredibly intricate.
That’s great to hear Esme. Perhaps you could share some of your art with us on the blog?
I love this picture and writing about it ! Did you know that Claude DE JONGH was dutch and didn’t actually paint the picture in England ? He spent some time in London sketching the bridge then went back to the Nether Lands . He produced the painting 3 YEARS LATER ! He was so talented and it must be so hard to make a painting so good !!!
Yerbury Primary School
Thank you for the background information Ava.
the boat looks so mysterious with the red blanket over the top it must be going to someone very important or wealthy I guess that’s why it’s on the left side I think the left side is there wealthiest side I’m really impressed with all the detail
Thank you Juno. Yes the boat does look luxurious. Do you know what the boat was carrying?
We are working on our mirror paintings of Old London Bridge. We have focused on the effect of the water and sky. Today we will be working on the bridge itself and the reflection in the water.
Super. We’d love to see some finished examples when you get a chance.
Dillon has been inspired by the painting and written a fabulous time travelling story, called ‘The Painting’. Today we had a well-deserved story time just before lunch, and Dillon shared his writing. There were lots of positive comments about Dillon’s ideas, and we even suggested he write a next instalment. Dillon thought he could use next week’s painting to do this. We can’t wait!
Thank you Dillon for all your hard work and enthusiasm.
We have been working on our own ‘Old London Bridges’ in Art, using watercolour and poster paint effects. We think they look very cool in the antique gilt frames!
Superb Matteo. You can see the similarities with the original but I also like how you’ve put your own style on it too.
Ernie has worked very hard on his reflection painting. At every step, he has played a little joke and said, “I messed up!” and then he would reveal his lovely work. We are very impressed – and it looks fantastic in the frame!
Ernie, this is fabulous. I hope you’re proud of your painting. It goes to show you shouldn’t worry about making mistakes as it’s part of the process.
Thank you So Much!
i love the painting is so good !
Here is Alfred’s finished persuasive argument for why the City of London is the best side of the river to live on in 1630. He has done a brilliant job, using lost of descriptive words and persuasive phrases.
Well done Alfred. I hope you’re proud of all your hard work and your final piece of writing.
Ariana has included some great details about the City of London in 1630. I am certainly convinced by her argument!
Congratulations Ariana on a convincing piece of writing. It’s great to see you putting so much effort into your work.
Thank you So Much!
I think that beacause this painting has so much detail you’d not be able to take your’e eyes of it! Not to mention how detailed the city, southwark , and the bridge itself!!!
I like how JMW turner made the painting very dark and dramatic but then added lots of
colour at the bottom
Good point Hugo. This creates a contrast. Where does your eye go to when you look at the painting?
I like all the detail and colour
I like how the painter made it very realistic and mild
i like how there are lot’s of houses on the bridge it’s amazing !
I think the painting is good because I like the dark colours of the sky and sea.
I like that the painting is dark and I like the way the waves are crashing around.
I love how the water reflects the bridge and it has a huge different on the right and left side and i also love how the bridge is reflecting the water.
