The painting, is actually really interesting becuase the birds are fighting and also they are huge compared to the guy!
I thought this piece was even better than the first because it shows how much effort has been put into the landscape.
Thank you Dillon. You’re paying attention to the whole painting.
this painting is really intresting and who made this picture put a lot of effort into it
Are the birds fighting ?
Yes Dillon. Can you spot the blood?
this painting is really intresting
i love this picture and the detail is amazing this must have took lots of time effort and dedication
The painting is really in intresting and confusing because i would like to know why the birds were fighting?
It’s a sport Amelia. They are trying to capture the heron (the white bird with the long beak).
I thought the painting was very interesting and looked like the artist put a lot of hard work into it.
when i saw the art work i was so surprised because that was so different compered to what i thought it was
i like the image it is really intresting
Hello,
I was surprised when we revealed the picture because why did the painter make the hawk attack a bird
I think it’s really intresting because i like birds
Thank you Tylan. Have you ever seen a hawk? A heron? Herons are usually found by water so perhaps a canal?
i think this is a fabulous painting because there is lots of detail and when i saw it my eyes popped straight open.I think the painting was quite surprising because i thoughtit would be a world war painting. Are the people hunting down the birds?
Hi Freddie, Yes I know what you mean by popped straight out. The way the birds are toppling in a circle and the background gives the painting depth.
I like the painting its so awsome were the birds fighting i really what to find out it looks like it?
This new painting is really interesting because i have never seen a painting like that in my life the man with the horse was just riding his horse then he saw two birds fighting really bad then the man saw them fighting so the man went to help them and stop the fight but my favourite part is when the men went to save the birds from fighting and my not favourite part is when the two birds were fighting and the man needed to go and save the birds from fighting. so yeah i really like it and i think that everyone will like it!
Hi Hatica,
It might be difficult to understand but this was seen a sport. The men aren’t trying to help the heron but they want to capture it skilfully so they only release one bird.
It was a bit confusing becase i thought the person was calling in for help and it looked like WW2 then i reliased there were no Cars Helicopters and Planes that time. And Is there only one painting?
Hi Yusuf, yes this painting is set in medieval times so certainly no cars etc. It is a stand alone painting.
I thought the painting was brutal because there were two birds attacking each other. It looked like one was defeated and one survived. It made me feel shocked and surprised! I’ve never seen a bird do that.
The birds, look like there attacking but also look like there feeding eachother.
The falcon is attacking the heron. Can you spot the blood where its claws are breaking the skin?
if you look really close you can see a far away castle they might come from there
Well spotted Martha.
Its a very cool for the and realistic 1800’s its got a very cool name and more same with the picture in very small detail like a flag in the background i feel like the people are raiding land and using hawks to fight humans that get close to them or attack them it is a very extreme painting it looks like tow birds fighting dramatically and one looks defeated and one doesnt look defeated
Hi Mikail, Lots of observations here. The flag in the background is marking a tournament where people would ride horses and joust.
when i first saw the painting itlook like two bird hugging when i look closelythey were fighting
OH MY GOD it so good I love the painting its the BEST and I have a question though and that is why is the eagle is lying down I don’t know why the eagle is doing that but I like so much and byee.
Do you mean the falcon Mirac? It’s trying to pin the larger heron to the ground.
I like how good you did.
We have been sharing our first ideas about the painting. Martha identified that the birds had been trained to fight. Kew Class have been discussing how this would have been an entertainment in medieval times.
Great to have a sneak preview.Hopefully you can highlight key details to your class mates.
That’s right. Another famous painting of Landseer’s is “The Monarch of the Glen”. Can you guess how the monarch (king) in a Landseer painting might be?
Vincent had a sneak peek at the painting with a small group of children in Kew Class. They had already started to think about what was going on! We have been using powerful adjectives, adverbs and verbs today to describe the battle of the birds. We have completed some amazing descriptions!
After having looked at small details in the painting, we were very surprised by the actual focus of Landseer’s painting. We have found out that he was responsible for the lions in Trafalgar Square and many paintings of animals!
Today we have described what it would feel like to have trained the birds and let them fly into a battle with their prey.
I really like how there is an audience. Also, I really like how it is so detailed and the guy on the horse look’s like he was the hawks owner because he’s got a hawking glove on him.
I think the painting is very dramatic because the birds were fighting
HI what i find facinating is the birds fighting and its so detaled. i also like the ground because its funny and weird
The painting is really realistic about the Hawk and the Herrin fought it’s very cool about seeing two birds fighting I mean not
for them if I was there I would be petrified.
Hawking in the olden times is a great painting. The animals fighting in the centre of the painting and the crowd is really interested in the birds fighting to them.In my opinion,Hawking should of been banned way before it was finally banned.
I was amazed by the fight against the hawk and the heron I never knew that it happen in the olden times! I loved the part when the person was cheering on there way to see the battle because it looks so amazing in the battle (I thought it was a women)!
There is a woman in the painting Daphne. Can you spot her?
I think that the painting is amazing that you get a close up on the intense battle but its better because I love animals and theres a crowed watching this tough battle
I love this painting because it has lots of cool action such as the Heron and the Hawk fighting dramaticly above the ground . This amazing painting makes me feel intence beacause the two birds fighting is very dangerous beacause one of the birds will maybe die and the owner of the bird that dies will regret making his beautiful bird die .
I think Edward Landseer is a very interesting man to be inspired by !
Thank you Paula. Yes it’s interesting to think what feelings paintings evoke in us. I understand why you feel it is intense.
I think that the painting is amazing that you get a close up on the intense battle but its better because I love animals and theres a crowed watching this tough battle.Theres also this guy telling the birds to fight
i like this painting because like the horse and the birds fighting look abstract
Yes I know what you mean Kelso. Can you explain more about how it looks abstract?
I think this painting is very intresting, because there are these two birds having a very dramatic fight in the center of the painting so it makes it very bold. This painting is very detailed because on the horses saddle it has a pop of color which contrasts from how dark the painting is. The birds in the center of the painting is so bold that it looks like there going to tumble out of the painting and on to your lap
I think Edward Landseer is a very talented painter and he is very inspireing!!
Thank you Dolly. Yes contrast is an important technique in paintings. Can you see other examples of contrast in the painting?
I like how the horse is running over the hill
Is this a kind of sport. It looks intresting.
