  1. We have realized that in the picture the two girls have quite a lot of similarities such as ,
they both look like young princesses, they both have pearl necklaces and they both
wear dresses. Apart from being very similar they also have a couple of differences
such as , they have different color skins , there dresses are different colors and have different patterns. We thought the girls knew each other as friends who had met having a picnic. We then had our own attempt at drawing the picture of 2 figures.

    1. It s a good peas of write me and Asma love your write it is amazing and very detailed and your right there is different and there is simalraty .

  2. We notice that in the background it looks like St. Paul’s Cathedral . Also it looks like they are sitting on a bench and the lady in the pink is pushing away the other lady in the silver. I noticed that in the fruit bowl some of the fruits look like some eyes for a monster.
The ladies are actually cousins. We noticed how the painter gently did the brush strokes to make it look very realistic. I realized that there was a lot of green in the picture. The artist is very talented, the way he paints natural light is amazing, you could even mistake the silver dress for GREEN! I like how it is very shady.

  3. Thank you for all the support in the power points and all the great questions.
David martin did a good job on the detail of the painting and thought really hard.
The story of Kenwood house with the Lord is amazing.
The picture is amazing the way he drew the necklaces also he had to pay hard attention to the building in the background because the building is so small.

The book that Elizabeth was holding really intrigued me in what it said! and windy river before the city.

Also the detail in the dresses are very good and you can really tell it is a dress.

  4. I can see 2 lady’s that are getting painted. We think we can see the Taj Mahal in the back which means it is in India.I can see that the lady on the wright is holding a book.We decided to take some guesses so we thought it was in Africa or Great Britain. We then found out it is in England and it is St Pauls cathedral. We thought that the two people in the picture are friends.

    1. we don’t think its in India because its the St Paul’s in the back ground not the Taj Mahal and because her dad left her in London

  5. David Martin did an excellent job on the two different dresses. Also a fantastic job on the hats on the two ladies and the detail of the hats also the feathers on the two hats. And you can see the book and the writing in the laddies book. And you can really tell that the person on the left has a bucket of fruit in her hand. And in the bucket you can really tell their is golden grapes , peaches , pears.
Additionally the building in the back they really stand out but they are so small. Furthermore the painting is so colorful and vibrant additionally it is filled with beautiful detail. Also on the book you can see the pages at the right hand side of the book.

  6. After talking about the painting, we were asked to draw a picture of two different people showing equality. For example, a boy and a girl showing that they both have the same amount of intelligence, or maybe a black and a white person holding hands to show people that have different skin colour shouldn’t be treated differently.

Here is an example of our drawing:

    1. WOW!!! Really interesting picture me and my partner really like the detail

  7. Dear Father,
How have you been doing? What have you been doing at sea? Where are you? I have been really really sad when you left me, I wish you could come back.

When you left me i had a friend called Elizabeth and she was really kind and sensible. Since you left me she was my only best-friend, and sometimes we go and play in the garden. In the garden we usually play hide and seek and sometimes we can go inside ken wood house, and then when I was trying to find a hiding spot in ken wood house I found a secret room, it was so dark but then I found a light switch and you would not believe what I saw in there, it was a room that leads you back in the garden but I did not see Elizabeth she was behind me then I counted.

Remember my uncle Lord Mansfield he has been treating me so nice and he cares for me and he is the best.

I still feel upset because I can not see you but I still miss you.

    Your sincerely Daughter.

Mansfield is really kind and feeds me well, keeps me warm i miss you father and i feel really upset. I do home school he makes sure i have good education it isnt fun without you i hope you reply.

  10. Dear Father,

How have you been lately? what has it been like at sea? were have you been? I missed you and i want you to come back.

I also have a cousin called Elizabeth she is very kind. we play in a garden near a beautiful pond. we play hide and seek in kenwood house. It is some times nearly impossible to find people some times. we explore some times in kenwood house some rooms we can not go inside. we even found a room with chocolate inside!

Lord Mansfield treats us very well and he is so fair. Every 2 weeks he gives us some chocolate he even bought a private teacher. He also bought a painter to paint a portrait of us. we were very happy that day.

I hope you have a good time at sea from Dido can you come back.

  11. Dear Father,

I am writing to tell you how my life is in Kenwood house. I had my portrait painted and it was very boring, but in hundreds of years maybe people from all around would see my portrait.

How is the sea? where are you sailing to now? How are you?

In class our tutor teaches us Latin and Greek. I also learnt how to be a gentlewoman and how to have to have table manners.

My cousin Elizabeth Murray came and we play lots of games like hide and seek. I feel so happy here because they treat me like a gentle woman.

    Your loving daughter,

    Dido Elizabeth

  12. Dear Father
I am writing to tell you about my life here at Kenwood House.
How are you? What are you doing?Where are you sailing now?I feel happy and sad at the same time because I miss you.

I’m also excited because my cousin Elizabeth Murray is here at Kenwood house. We get to play hide and seek tag and we also make up are own games. We learn Greek,Latin, how to dance and how to be a gentle Woman and my favorite lesson is dancing .
I am wondering about my portrait but is it going to be boring but it will be worth it because I am going to dress up in my best clothes and in my best make up but would I stay still or move.
    Your loving daughter Dido

  13. Dear Father,

I am writing to tell you about how I am getting on in Kenwood House. I had a painting done with my cousin Elizabeth Murray. It was really boring. When some people saw it they were surprised because Elizabeth is white and I am black.

We have been learning lots of things about being a gentle woman and have learnt how to eat and walk like a gentle woman so far. I am really happy that Elizabeth is here and I do lessons with her.

    Your loving daughter
    Dido

  14. 14 January 1765
    Dear Father,
I am writing to tell you about how my life is at Kenwood house.
How are you? Where is your boat sailing to?Where is your boa t at?
I have been told that Elizabeth Murray is coming. I am going to plan some interesting lessons for her. I am so exited that she’s coming.I hope you don ‘t mind that she’s coming.

When she come’s we could both play hide and seek . Or we could talk thing and we could say secrets to each other. I can’t wait.

I’ve been learning how to dress up in fine clothes and how to eat properly and sit well.
I am becoming better and better .I’ve also learning how to get more manners.

Also me and Elizabeth Murray and I are going to get our portrait painted. It is so boring because we had to stay still for a long time but the best bit is I got to dress up in nice clothes and do my makeup also i got to do my hair nicely and I love the clothes I wore when I got my portrait done.

    Your loving daughter,
    Dido

  15. Father,

Guess what! I am having my painting done Elizabeth and I am really excited and happy.

I wonder if anyone will know who I am. We had to sit on a chair each and it was really boring but before we had it, we had to change into our best clothes and had to put our makeup on so we look beautiful for when we have our painting done.

I am very happy here in Kenwood House and I get to play with my cousin Elizabeth Murray. We play hide and seek and catching games because Kenwood House is a very big place with lots of hiding spots.

    Your loving daughter,
    Dido

  16. Dear Father,

I am writing to tell you what i have been doing in my new life in ken wood house. While you have been sailing. This is what i have been doing.

while you have been away I have been taught so much such as. How to be a gentlewoman by sewing, table manners and different languages.

Father i am so astonished because my cousin is arriving today she is about the same age as me. She is called Elizabeth Murray and her father is traveling just like you. i’m so nervous because i don’t know if she will like me or hate me and i’m curious what she looks like?

And how have you been? i want to see you soon. where have you been around the sea so far around the world?.

And father Elizabeth and I got a portrait. It was really tiring and boring. We also had to sit for very long but it was worth it because maybe in hundreds of years people around the same age as me will see it and wonder how we are and maybe become famous. It was fun because we got to dress up and put makeup on.

When I first saw my cousin Elizabeth I was speechless because she was the kindest person I have seen and ever met and I’m so glad I have a cousin like her.

    Your loving daughter,
    Dido

  17. Dear Father
I am writing to tell you how it is like in K enwood . Firstly how are you . I’m fine.Where are you traveling ?
It is wonderful being in this house but it is better if you were here . Also I’ve got great news ,I’ve had my portrait painted but it was very boring because we had stand still for a long time . But I got to wear my best clothes and my jewellery also I got makeup .Plus after a hundred years people might wonder who I am and I might be famous .

Can you believe I’ve got an lovely , kind cousin who works and plays with me . She is called Elizabeth Murray and she arrived last week.We are learning how to be a gentle woman and learning how to speak Latin and Greek . Also I am learning how to sew .

My favoute thing to do is play with my cousin and go to the theatre and watch plays mostly at the Globe.

    from your loving daughter ,

    Dido

  18. Dear Father,
When my portrait was painted it was exciting to see but during the painting myself and Elizabeth Murray were really bored. We had to stay for a long time and it felt like if it took years to finish. You might be wondering who is Elizabeth Murray. Well, she is my cousin and she came to London and Hampstead Heath just two days ago.
I was really peaceful but slightly embarrassed when I first met her because i didn’t know what to say to her or how to greet her.
We are both really happy now and loving our time together in London but I really miss you father but I can’t wait to see you again soon.
    Yours sincerley,
    Your loving daughter.

  19. Dear Father,
How are you? I have been missing you. I am writing to question you about life at the sea. Is it nice there? I wish i could be there with you. I am really emotional I do not get to see you anymore! I hope you come back to spend time with me. I really miss you.

My cousin Elizabeth is with me. She is my best friend and is so kind. Hopefully you can meet her to! We love to play in the garden and love splashing each other near the pond! I wish you were here to play with us. It is really fun!

Lord Mansfield is really kind. He lets me wear expensive jewlery and glamorous clothes. He picks me the most juicest and most delicous grapes from the tropical. He feeds me and treats me very well. He gives me great private schools and educates me. He brings me private tutors to help me even more. Please come for a visit we could have fun with Elizabeth.

  20. Dear Father How are you. What is it like at the wonderful sea . What sea are you working in . The sea must be very calm and relaxing for you . I miss you so much it will be lovely if i could see you at the sea . My friendship with Elizabeth is very fun she is so kink and pretty .We have alot of fun activites together . 21. Dear farther
what is life at sea. what places have you been to away in the open sea. I am really hopping to see you again and I feel really upset.

Me and Elizabeth had a really fun time playing with her. we had a amazing time playing around the big pond and seeing the fish how they swim and we fed them. My best part
was playing hide and seek around ken-wood house and there was a very big sign saying
keep out. We explored the huge house.

Lord Mansfield treated me very nicely and respectfully. He brought me new cloths
and fed me the best food that i ever had He was caring for me a lot and he was
a very nice guy and home schooled and gives me education and i learnt a lot from him.

  22. we are learning about Dido we wrote a letter to Dido dad to say how are you ?

  23. Today we looked at the painting of Dido and Elizabeth Murray. We pretended to be Dido and we wrote letters to her dad and we was thinking about how she felt when she first went to Kenwood house. We thought that when she first went there she felt a bit awkward and scared because she mixed person and we thought that the painting was really stunning and beautiful because they both wore amazing dresses and Jewllery.

  24. In our class we was thinking of how Dido was feeling when her dad left her with Lord and Lady Mansfield at first I thought she was embarrassed because she was the only mix race person and the other Black people were slaves

  25. We have been writing about this picture from David Martin and it looks different because the skin colour and the dress looks different and the girl with the basket
look like she is a slave.

  26. We looked at this painting me and my partner think its is a very detailed painting. In our class we were thinking about how she felt when her dad left her to live in Kenwood house with her uncle(Lords Mansfield) and aunty and cousins .

  27. We looked at the portrait of Dido Belle and Elizabeth Murray but we studied mainly on Dido.Knowing that her father gave her to Lord and Lady Mansfeild we thought about how she felt how much she missed her father and how she felt to be the only person mixed race . We wrote a letter as Dido to her father to talk about her fellings and how she felt in England . At the time we wrote we said she was either 14 or 15 . I said that she was 14 and Daniel thought she was also 14 . There are also a few things that are different and a few things that are similar . For example they both are holding something . But to make them different they both have different skin colours . Anyway we both really like it and even though we are going to Kenwood house to see a copy . We both recommend you go to see the real thing in Scotland

  28. We were writing about Dido and Elizabeth’s feelings so we were talking about there feelings

  29. In our class we was writing a letter as Dido and we were writing to Dido ‘s father and the different s are the skin ton and their personality and the colour dresses and the things that there holding are a book and a fruit s in a basket .

  30. In art we tried to copy the painting in our art pad but most of us did not finish. In literacy we wrote letters to Dido’s dad from Dido. The panting had few similarities which are they are both holding things and they are both are wearing dresses.

  31. The painting describes the history of slavery our class has been learning much about the painting and we did a letter of dido belle .

  32. We wrote letters from Dido to here father. We learnt that the girl next to Dido is Elizabeth and they are cousin.

  33. Today we looked at this painting of Dido and Elizabeth and we found out about her story how she had to live with her uncle and Elizabeth and we think that she missed her Dad a lot and we thought that she felt nervous because she was mixed and the others were white and she didn’t really know how to act like them.

  34. Dear father
How are you? I miss you. šŸ™ . I have befriended a young lady named Elisabeth. She loves books. Lord Mansfield is very polite & kind. Elisabeth & I play hide -&-seek a very many times.

  35. When I first saw the picture, I thought that the picture was of Disney princesses. Then I looked at it closer and realised that it was two ladies. First of all though, the picture was separated so we only got to see one lady each. First we looked at Dido and we thought that she was Jasmine and that she was a really rich person who went to school. Then some people saw that somebody was touching her and that she had a different skin colour. Then we looked at Elizabeth and people started thinking that she was reading the bible and was going to church until we saw her hand pointing out of the painting. Then people figured out that the painting was connected and we saw that the two paintings WERE connected together and they were holding each other. At first we had absolutely NO idea what on earth was going on. But now that we have learnt about it and wrote about them, everything makes complete sense.

  36. Dear Father. Today i am going to get my Gutuir lesson. I was extremity happy and nervous. For a little bit i have been home schooled for a while. My guitar teacher came over now it was my tern to play someone knocked on the door i got realy distracted and my teater told me of i was confused. ILost focused My teacher was telling me of What will happen next time.

  37. Dear father,

I would like to inform you how I’ve been doing. Firstly, the house is exactly like a mansion! Elizabeth never blames me, instead whenever Lord Man field’s back is turned and I do something wrong she blames herself! The thing is, everybody’s room is so, so, so, nice except from mine. Mine has so many spiders, which totally freak me out! The bed always makes a squeaky sound when I get up!

The floor boards make a squeaky sound (is well) when I walk on them. Elizabeth’s room is AMAZING!!! Her bed has curtains, really nice bed sheets, dressing table, hairbrush, make-up, a nice rug and a white, clean desk!

Lord man’s field treats me exactly like a slave! Sometimes he tells me to do the dishes or cook just so he can text his friends! He also punishes me for no reason! He has this bell and when he rings it he wants me to come to his room (which is neat, tidy, clean and cool! I can’t write to you anymore because my hand hurts I love you, I hear lord Man’s field ringing his annoying bell bye!

  38. To father,
I just wanted to tell how fun it is in Kenwood house I get a Tudor and do what I want guess who I’m popular its super fun being me every one knows me! By the way Elizabeth help me to get there she is one of my best friend. I only do a little I miss you a little bit I love this but I miss you so much

  39. Dear farther,

The house in Kenwood house looked very bright and white model
And stripy and black. The house looks nice. I enjoyed the Kenwood
House it was beautiful and nice liked Kenwood house it was amazing
Looking at all the pictures in Kenwood house. I went outside to
Get some fruit and they were yummy to eat I normally get them as
A snack to eat. It so nice to live here at Kenwood house.

  40. Dear Father,

I love life in Kenwood House but if I could ask for one thing I would love a little puppy to hang on to.

Also, when would I get a new tutor Mrs. Lopep isn’t that cutting (sorry to say, I just don’t like her squirrel like voice.)

Do you remember about my picture with, Liz? Well I would love to have it repainted because it doesn’t catch my inner-beauty, and Liz has been making fun of me non-stop so make her stop father. Make her STOP!!! Please! Even my one of a kind Silver Swan won’t cheer me up, and that was Ā£50,000 so can you make her stop.

    Thanks!

    From your ā€œDaughterā€ Dido

  41. Dear father,
I love the life in Kenwood house and I’m enjoying it. The life is amazing every day I learn something new. I get treated really well. Father I want a pet I’m so lonely. I have no cousins no friends and LIZ is not in the house when I am. Father please I am begging you get me a pet I’m so bored all I do is just watching TV. Now is your turn tell me about your life and how you’re living? If you ask how LIZ is I don’t know she is always at work and busy.

  42. Hi father,
How’s life? My life is great. I am writing to tell you that I am doing good. I miss you a lot. I’m having fun with my cousins. We play a lot and we read a lot too. We have lots of fun we love playing together. Hope you are ok. It is amazing being here. I know I’ve said this but I miss you.

  43. Dear Father,
I feel awesome and safe with Elizabeth Murray. She treats me like a human. I treat her like a human as well, as she does. Lord Mansfield treats her well because he wants to paint Elizabeth Murray and will put it around the house. The reason is to show Elizabeth Murray emotions and expression to the world and herself. But in school I have been taught a lot but it was very dirty and messy. I normally play with Elizabeth Murray and play fun games and I especially win and get treated by a gift. At Kenwood house it’s good with all the painting and very good furniture .You can get lost there but sometimes you can find your way out. Luckily, but don’t you worry when you get to know that place very well you will know everything and won’t get lost.

  44. Dear father,
I’m writing to tell you how my life is in Kenwood house. It’s a wonderful place we play games all the time with Elizabeth Murry .They have a humongous house it looks bigger than a mansion .We wake up early and have a big meal for breakfast every ones so kind and pleasant .It’s not like our old house all disgusting and mucky .Also you won’t believe it ! We have our very own servants now, before we were the slaves .I’ve even got a private tutor (which is someone that comes and teaches me alone). I admit that I’ve a little bit but only a little bit spoiled .Life in Kenwood house is amazing I learn so much .Maths, science, English even a different langue Spanish! On my birthday which was yesterday

  45. Dear father I’m having a great time in Kenwood house write a note or letter back to me when you can and tell me about the sea and how it is but I’m in love with how big the house is plus me and my cousin Elizabeth Murray are having so much fun. Sometimes I like to go down the stairs on the railings but I wish you were there though I would love to see the fish I bet it’s really fun but farther let me know how life is at sea. Did you know it’s shaped like a church but it’s a castle me and Elizabeth Murray even have a butler. It’s so cool but I still wish you were here but it feels like another home I’m attached to. I am now a big girl in a high amount of age and so does Elizabeth she has hazel eyes our bonding is growing each day we hopefully know you’re coming home please you have to see Elizabeth Murray she’s amazing I feel like she’s my sister. And it’s really fun and when the butler comes the food tastes so good I love rolling down the stairs I might do it after when I go to eat pancakes

    Sincerely dido

  48. Writing through art week 4

    Dear father,
I’ve been wanting to tell you how life has been in Kenwood house. I’ve made a good friend called Elizabeth Murray. Lord Mansfield treats me very nicely I also treat him very nicely like the boss well he is the boss of Kenwood house. He is really nice to me but sometimes he gets a bit rude to me so I just keep quiet and go to my room. I was super exited when I got my first portrait painted the portrait was painted very nicely I also got painted with a good friend of mine. I was very excited to get my portrait painted. My friend ship with Elizabeth Murray was very good and is still a very good friend to me.

Lots of love from your one and only daughter
    Dido

  49. One day ditto mum went from the house and said ā€˜ā€™am leaving’ ’but she never came back. So after she died we didn’t know how she died. I made a new friend her name is Elizabeth Murray and we read books together and she helps me with my carer without you and mother.

  50. Dear father,

I am writing to tell you how I have been in Kentwood house.
Just out of the even my friendship with Elizabeth is great, today we even got our portrait painted. It’s spectacular it was done outside of the gallery at the best bench.

I feel great I hope you are too. I by the way imagine I’m famous right now they are putting up the portrait right now in the gallery. The Lord treats me fine a little rough around the edges but I’m used to it. I hope you write back to me soon I really miss you.

I can get Elizabeth to write.

  51. Dear Father
Life in Kentwood house is horrific because people hear are boring because all they do is just read this is why I am writing to you. The beds hear are beautiful and super clean me and Elizabeth Murry are being very nice to people like always me Elizabeth all ways meat up with each other with our friend holly. The paintings hear are amazing! The teachers are very nice hear and very pretty. But the main thing why I am writing to you is that I want to come home oh and the second main reason is that the food hear is…gross so all of my spending money is going on food so when you get this letter pleas ship me of some more money and how is mother doing in Greece .If you are worrying about Lord Mansfield he is very bossy because I all ways complain about the food and the noise because I need my beauty sleep and I need nice breath.

    Lots of love from Dido
