  1. I like the birds in the picture. I love the colour of the sky! The colour of the sand remind me of a desert.

      1. It is very cruel to make a bird fight a other bird and illegal. And
the vibrant white horse. Also the fight was super intense also scary majestically the heron won but hawk lost sadly. There is a other bird helping the heron or the hawk the owner of the heron put 2 birds after the hawk or one.

  2. This morning l was riding a hors until i saw ow biders fiting over the bumpy hills. i was surprisd that one dide . i saw driping blood.

A heron and a hawk fighting and the heron was bleeding. The hawk was on the heron ripping it’s feathers out the heron, the hawk was dragging the heron to the floor. And I was scared the hawk might attack me because the hawk was not that damaged.

  6. This morning on my adventure on the bumpy hills i saw a furious bird screeching at me and the bird some blood on it self because other birds came to attack the heron the other birds were scratching the heron so that is why the heron had blood.

  7. i was confused why i heard something and loud noises and birds were fighting they were ripping fathers of each other and it looked liked it hurt maybe they were flying around and the bird found another bird and they both started fighting i think they were angry and it was a bit sad seeing that happen and hurting each other with there hawks it looked kinda mean and a bit terryfying that they might of got injured the haron was dripping blood from his theafers and tearing each others theafers it was surprising thay were crushing and squarking also pecking it looks like that have 2 heads but it’s becuase thay have a long neck.

  11. this morning I saw the most mind blowing thing ever in my life! I was just riding my horse and something swooped through the air through the steep and rough countryside hill they were fighting a bear and a wolf fighting in the forest, the heron was completely covered with bloody stains of the hawk’s claws. I was very confused of how the heron was loosing to the hawk the battle was ruthless. I felt sad for the heron but it must have done something bad to be in this situation…

      1. Thank you Freya. A hawk’s claws (talons) are incredibly sharp as are the beaks. They can also move very quickly.

  12. This morning i was going on a lovely horse ride suddenly after a while
I saw Bird riping and tearing other birds some birds were ganging up there there was some Birds that died !!! I was shocked I felt fascinated at first but after I saw a bird and his blood was dripping felt sad for some reason.

    1. Thank you Muhammad. It’s interesting to consider the emotions of the onlookers although many would have enjoyed the “sport”.

  14. This morning I was riding my horse over the dusty, crumbly mountains when I heard distant screeching and tearing so I rode after the sound. Then I saw a hawk and a heron fighting each other and there were so many feathers! They looked like one big 2-headed beast and both heads were attacking each other. I was so confused : How did the birds get there and how did the battle begin? After many hours full of blood, feathers and screaming the battle finally ended. The hawk won. I think the hawk won because it has sharper talons and claws.

  15. This afternoon i was riding my horse past countless sand dunes 10 mins later I saw 11 people watching two birds fighting. I could’t quite make out the spieces of birds they were . It was hard because the birds were grabing each other. I asked a whitness ( the person watching the fight ) what was the type’s of bird’s ? the witness said the one in the blue and white is a heron and the one in the goldish brown is a hawk I was like ohhhhhh
I was realy fascinated and also kid of confused how did they start fighting i said to myself . I heard consant screeching my ears bleed! but i took no notice that the bird were bleeding until it hapend red liquid dript on my head IT WAS BLOOD !!!! now they had my full atention .

  16. This afternoon I went for a ride on my horse on the dusty bumpy hills I saw a very surprising thing HAPPENED!! . 18. Dear sir,
I am really grateful for being invited. I will surely visit to go hawking again. The country side was really calm but the dark and gloomy sky made me horrified as the blood-thirsty birds were flying above .

I was thirsty and hungry but that did not distract me from hawking. Although I was horrified, I got used to it now.

But I do want to say at first when I saw the hawk viciously attack on the heron that made my stomach go upside down.

    Yours faithfully,
    Duaa.

  19. Dear sir,
Today was a amazing day out! I’m so excited to come meet you again! I was a bit scared at first but in the end I had a really fun time.

I smelt the fresh blood as the Hawk was ripping open and eating the dry flesh off the other weak and hurt bird. I really enjoyed it thank you for inviting me, I’m totally coming to meet you again.

    Yours faithfully,
    Lylah.

    1. Thank you Lylah. A gory account. The idea of the sport was not to injure the captured bird too much if possible.

  20. Dear sir,

Thank you for having me to your hawking expedition today. I was terrified at first hearing all the screams of the massive birds but i got use to it. I was exhausted going back and forth to camp 14 it felt like my heart was going to jump out of my chest at one point.

As I was watching the blood-thirsty heron rip of the other birds heads of the sun was going down and it was getting gloomier and gloomier and it didn’t help that it was freezing out there.

  21. Dear Sir,
Today was a busy day. It was gloomy, dull and dark. I saw a couple of birds getting hurt but that didn’t really bother me too much since they can fly.

Even though they didn’t try to fly away, I still felt bad seeing birds getting hurt but I tried to look away so I could calm myself down.

I started walking back home but there was a problem. The sky was still very gloomy, dull and dark. I was scared and thought it meant something dangerous. I found a shed and slept in there instead. When It became morning, everything came back to normal and I enjoyed my day.

    Yours faithfully,
    Havin.

    1. Thank you Havin. I like the originality of your account. It evokes the painting but focuses on a different aspect.

  22. Dear Mad’am,
Thank you for inviting me to he gloomy hawking expedition today.
I will most certainly join in every time when it happens!
The hawking was really terriffing when i saw it, I heard werid noises from the hawking bird.
The cloudy, dull and gloomy day didn’t distract me from the hawking, it was the best moment of my life!
The hunger in my stomach was paining but I was still distracted even though I had pain in my body, my body was upside down.
    Your sincely, Malaika

    Dear sir,

Today was a busy day, the sky was grey and cloudy . I felt sad and horrible for two birds I felt I should do something but I didn’t because it’s not my problem.

I felt ok because I didn’t know what to do. I saw the sky, it was going to rain so I went in my tent.

I started to like the sport because I was getting use to it and I was looking around. I hope to go hawking again soon.

    Yours faithfully,
    Donika

  24. Dear Sir,
Today was an extrordinary day while watching the hawking expedition.
I will deffinutely be joining you again ,it was peril but interesting I was a little bit scared that the hawk would hit me. My legs were in pain and my stomach was hurting from hunger, I was dizzy and I loocked pale so I went back to the village got some food and came back. by the time I came back the heron was DEAD pouring with bright red blood slightly moving
    Yours faithfully shannon cammock

  25. Dear sir,

Thank you for inviting me to the hawking expedition today. I’m am so happy that the gloomy, dull, cloudy weather did not stop us from catching a terrifyingly massive hawk.

Although at first I was horrified of the foggy haunted like area we were in, and the massive hawks, after a while I got more comfortable of being there after all it was really cool watching the hawk’s fight.

I was very hungry, tired and thirsty I also looked very scruffy and my stomach hurt so much I hadn’t eaten for so long I thought I was going to die of hunger but the hawks distracted me. After a while of feeling sick, the expedition was very interesting

Although I felt sick and the expedition was very dangerous I enjoyed the expedition, it was very interesting and I hope to join you again.
Thank for inviting me, I’m very grateful.

    Yours faithfully Isabelle.

    1. Thank you Isabelle. I like the way you have focused on the expedition. As you imply it would have been a long and tiring trip.

  26. Woah! I love how this painting looks like its so realistic, when I saw the birds I couldn’t believe that it was a painting! But the practice Hawking was so cruel. Making 2 birds fight? I cant believe that was entertainment. Old humans were so cruel!

    1. Well he did some studying about the Medieval period, he also had a zoo like garden where he held lots of majestic birds like the Hawk and the Herring (The birds in the painting) He also studied the birds so that’s why its so majestic.

  27. I was not exactly sure if I liked it or not, even though I like the detail,I thought it was sad to see the heron dying. I have looked at some other Edwin Landseer paintings and prefer the ones of dogs but my favourite is “Monarch of the glen”. Although “Hawking in the olden times” was very sad & tragic I found it very, very, very interesting how he used tiny bits of red to highlight the most dramatic bits.

  28. First when I saw the man on the horse .And the two birds were amazing the two birds name was heran and hawk. It blowed me up.

  29. this is very sad to see the painting because your seeing to birds fight and not caring about nature like what did the animal world do to us (except for the predators’ but still) its very bad and if you look close at the heron there’s blood underneath the wings of the bird 🙁 that’s just sad to see and when one of the birds die they just don’t care witch is very sad to know D: do you guys agree?

  30. Dear mum you wont belive what i saw today! Theses people all went to this feld and the all watched birds fight! And i do not agree with that! it was very pain ful and brutal and sad to watch:( it was lie they were chearing?! I was very confused! iwill never go there again and i will sew them for harming animals! they are just like us they need to see there familys they must be scared! and the fact they all wanted this to happen and all sat there and watched this vilonts! it is crull and out ragouse! This must stop at once! byeeXxXxXxOoOo

  31. Dear Family,
Honestly The Hawking was disturbing because there was this falcon killing birds! But first let me tell you what happened.
So apparently I was walking down the street the a guy comes up and say’s ”do you want to come to our Hawking sport, it is very cool”! So i said yes. And then he brought me to a house! I was so confused in that moment. So then he got me next to a shelf and opened it! I was astonished.
But then I saw a lot of people with birds on their arms. But what got me off was that the birds were a falcon, and had a weird hat on its eyes that’s strange.
After, the falcon’s where killing innocent birds! My heart sank! I couldn’t see it so I closed my eyes and said to myself, I need to escape . So I tried to.
The people was distracted by the falcons, So this was my opportunity to escape, so im back to my house and never going to say yes to them ever again

  32. Dear hawking association,
This is a letter of complaint about hawking. This is why I came to the conclusion. I recently arrived at a village in the country someone recommended hawking so I went to watch it. It took an average of 2 long hours on foot through the perilous mountains and into an open space they released the helmets and they flew off I was shocked when I saw all the blood and Injuries of hawking. I just didn’t know what face to pull. I stood and watched. When I went back I could not stop thinking about what had happened. So I decided to get paper and write this letter. How can you agree with this?

    Yours sincerely Joseph

  33. Dear Bonnie and family you will never guess what happened to men today this fighting is unbelieveble.I felt shoked and teriffied!
Firstly i heard that there was a sport called Hawking and two giant birds were fighting so agresly.I was so out of control i didn’t know what to say.
Then i saw a bit of blood however i didn’t look.I didn’t think that was fair he Hawking won and the falcon lost.I wouldn’t invite any of you to see what i’m seeing. This is so extrodinary.
Next i saw that the birds put a helmet on by seewing one eye that looked scary that helmet is for hunting i wanted to help them but i couldn’t.
Finally it stopped .You see i don’t know why you should see what im looking.
    From Jasmine
    To best wishes family bonnie

  34. Dear Hawking Association, I would like to send a complaint about this Hawking sport. This sport is way to violent and extremely disturbing, you shouldn’t be allowed to even call this a sport. You don’t sew a bird’s eyelid, then let them fight. I have had my money wasted. This sport should be safer and less violent. I am disappointed about this fake sport. In a real sport living things are not killed or tortured. This sport should be banned. Everybody who paid to watch this fake sport should get a refund of money. I am truly disappointed because it was a waste of precious time. I am outraged about this sport, it should be banned and I am never trusting your association ever again. Your sincerely from Demian.

  35. Dear dad the place you told me to go was horrifying.During the hunt i had an argument with sir henry ewared i was feeling unsafe as i came home. i renembered everything however they told me to come again i complained as they lost blood: from victor

  36. Dear mum I moved to another villege .If you want to come visit then ill book you an uber if you want and how are the dogs ? i have new friends now there names are called emma izzy and harley rea they are the best but guess what happend yesterday is saw a bird with a red hat on covering his eyes and his eyes were stiched well only one so it will be a fair fight for them they were dripping with blood it was disckrasfull best wishes from sophie have funn

    1. Thank you Sophie. A gory account. Just remember there were no cars in the 1600s. People travelled by foot or horse. Certainly no Ubers.

  37. Dear Louise

i moved to a new village where there are lots of people, where i used to live there where only a few people.

There’s this new sports called hawking i sighed up to see it,and i am so exited! i bought this house its made out of wood and a lilttle bit of stone i cooked some soup because i was really cold.

Its the next day know, and i’m really looking forward to seeing hawkings. Theres alot of people hear and and there are 2 birds fighting it was very disterbing ! its wasnt what i expected.

  38. Dear Professor Joseph T

I am writing a complaint about Hawking.
When I first heard about Hawking i was excited but now im not because i dont want falcons to kill other bird, fish and other animals.i would like to band hawking so no more innocent animals or people can be shocked. You should not sew falcon eye shut. would you like someone to to do that to you?????

    Your Sincerely Diyako

  39. This picture is amazing but i think that it’s very cruel and it has lot of interesting detail like the birds fighting.

  40. The awking was dramtic and the Birds names are hawk and the Hevon They were both fighting hawking isn’t a sport now on days beacuse its a cruel sport

  41. I like this one because of the birds they look so beautiful painted like that even though they are battling

  42. I can see a man on a horse, chasing the hawk.
It looks like there is another bird on top of the hawk and they are fighting.

  43. I love how you made the guy on the horse look like its saying “Ho” , i really like how the hawk and the heron really looks like there are fighting for real.

  44. Hi, your painting is spectacular! And I noticed a red ribbon with I think a piece of meat on one of the birds.

  45. Dear mum you wont belive what i saw today! Theses people all went to this feld and the all watched birds battle! And i do not agree with that! it was very disturbing and brutal and sad to see:( it was lie they were chearing?! I was very confused! iwill never go there again and i will sew them for harming animals! they are just like us they need to see there familys they must be scared! and the fact they all wanted this to happen and all sat there and watched this vilonts! it is crull and out ragouse! This must stop right now!!!

  46. it’s very detailed the hawk and the heron are mostly involved the picture is massive

  47. This painting is atcually terrifying because of the birds fighting-It’s like a tournament! Also I like how this painting is detailed and cloudy!
