  1. I like the characters in this and am particularly interested and fascinated by the falcons on the people’s shoulders. The subject of Hawking doesn’t interest me much, but this painting makes me feel better about it. Meanwhile, it is amazing at how the landscape shown at the beginning of the slideshow has such a small role in the painting.

    1. Hi Ayaan, The landscape has a bigger role than it seems. Clearly we can see the water where the heron would have been disturbed in. However Landseer is not painting his own era but a past one from medieval times thus the tournament in the background. Landseer is remembering an old time fondly as in his day a new law was about to be enacted which would mean fields were fenced in and activities like hawking would be more challenging.
