Personally, I think the reason that the poem is still inspiring many people today is because it talks about unity in the continent ; and that everybody has a role to play ; and the poem all together is very touching and also moving . I am sure that in 100 years that poem will still be out there .
Thank you Jayden for your thoughtful response. What do you think makes a poem popular across many decades?
this is my favourite poem really inspiring
I’m glad you enjoyed it Maya.
John Donne was a very inspirational man, and he taught many people to believe in themselves, and let them know that every man or woman on the planet can make a difference. We are all in this together, and we all can change the world and keep the human race flowing.
Thank you Ayaan. Do you think the poem is relevant today?
IT WAS HARD AT SOME PLACES
John Doe was saying that whatever war one person is in every one else is in it too. It is very inspirational and this message will be read to the next generation.
Thank you Aarav. So you think the poem relates to war? What else might it relate to?
I didn’t really understand the poem but i did understand a little bit of the poem
Yes it’s a tricky poem Oliver. What did you understand?
my teacher copies these from u for his lesson
Hi Amelia,
We share the lessons and your teachers teach them to you.
what do the bells mean you lot?
Well bells would ring to mark a death Oscar. Does that help you to understand the poem?
John Donne was a person who inspired others and that could people if they fell depressed or something like that but Martin Luther king even got inspired by John Donne
Thank you Charlie. Could you explain how John Donne inspired Martin Luther King?
Because it said in the powerpoint
Yes, it said Luther King was inspired, but it did not explain why. Could you make a link between John Donne’s message and Martin Luther King campaigning for Civil Rights?
We are an island but we are also part of Continent and we need to help each other in these difficult times .
we all live on different island but everyone is different in there own ways and can help in different ways
IF everyone stopped the jobs they were doing the world would not be the same
I believe that the poem may still inspire people today especially, in the lockdown as it reminds us that we are all in the same boat. No-one is alone out there everyone is the same no matter your background, race or religion. Which could be why Martin Luther King also used this as part of a speech to unite people.
Thank you Deven. I agree with you, the poem seems relevant in the present situation.
yes this poem may inspire people up till today and it means that we have to look after each other and learn from one another, it could also mean that human beings do badly when isolated from others and need to be part of a community in order to thrive/develop. I think that Martin Luther King quoted this poem as it is inspiring and it shows that everyone is a part of something and we are all in this together.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Emilia.
I’m not sure, but, does it suggest that if everyone is together we are stronger and if we lose someone that it’s not the same and we are weaker.
I think that sums up the poem’s message very well Megan.
I discussed this with my mum and we thought it was an inspiring poem and means a lot. We enjoyed reading this peom.
Hi Henry, It’s great to hear you discussed it with your Mum. It’s lovely to exchange views on a poem or piece of art and develop an understanding together.
