  3. Dear Father, I’ve settled in with the Mansfield’s.There very nice, I’ve started to like the place.Don’t worry it isn’t as nice as being with you.I miss you greatly.I have made a new friend, it’s a girl and her name is Elizabeth.Elizabeth Murray to be precise. She is very gentle but don’t underestimate her amount of fun.We have really got to know each other. We really like going into the woods when I am in nature I feel like a whole different person. It always makes me happy.I think you would have liked her.She has told me stories from the books she has read. When she tells them to me she tells them so dramatic and it really captures you in(just how you did.)The food is amazing it really makes my mouth happy.I love you.

I think some people were shocked because
1.You might think she would be a slave or something because she’s black
but no she is in very nice clothes.

2.Because someone might think a black and white person would not be
    Playing with each other

  4. Dear Father,
I’m having a lovely time at Kenwood House. Elizabeth Murray is so nice we always play hide and seek together. It would be really good if you could come and visit some time. Lord Mansfield treats me the best of the best.

    Kindest Regards
    Dido

  5. Dear Dad,
I’m just in my garden picking some beautiful flowers. Yesterday I bought a lovely dress made of silk. Elizabeth and I are very well. I miss you so much. I hope things are okay at sea,
    Yours Sincerely,
    Dido.

  6. Dear Father,
although I miss you terribly, my life at Kenwood house is lovely. Lord and Lady Mansfield treat me like a princess. And there is another girl, her name is Elizabeth and she is my age. Elizabeth and me have built a friendship you could never break because it is so strong. My feelings are safe from painful words because I have wonderful ladies and gentlemen around me. An artist came to paint Elizabeth and me together so Lord and Lady Mansfield would remember us forever and I don’t blame them.

From your very happy daughter, Dido.

  7. Dearest Father,
I miss thee very much, and was thinking ‘when will thee come again?’
I am having a great time here and Mrs Murray and I have made a very strong
relationship. Kenwood is a great place and one can wander around for hours and hours without knowing where one is, but I am still missing thee every sleepless night, so can thee take a break from travelling and come and see thine only daughter. Hope to see thee soon,

    Lots of love,

    From thy dearest daughter,
    Dido

  14. Dear Father,

Elizabeth and I have been walking through the gardens at Kenwood today, they are so beautiful, father. Sometimes people stare at our different appearances but Lord Mansfield tells us everyone is equal, who cares what others think. He also says that everyone should have an education and so I am occupying my time reading and studying with Elizabeth.
I am enjoying my time with Elizabeth, she is great friend and we roam the parks hand in hand.
I miss you father, I hope that you will return from your travels soon.

    Your dearest Dido x

  19. Dear Father,
I miss you greatly, but you will be pleased to know I am extremely happy here at Kenwood, although I would rather be with you.

I am now best friends with my cousin Elizabeth. She is living here at Kenwood with Lord and Lady Mansfield as well. We keep each other company everyday, and we usually go to the woods.

Lord Mansfield is very nice, and yesterday he treated Elizabeth and I to new dresses. I chose white silk, Elizabeth chose pink silk. Once we were wearing them, we got our portrait painted. It is very nice. Maybe, if you come and visit, I could show you. It has pride of place in the living room.

I hope I get to see you very soon.

    Your loving daughter,
    Dido Belle.

  20. Greetings Father,

I have been living at Kenwood house. It has not been bad at all; they do not treat me like a slave and it is a lot of fun. My best friend is Elizabeth Murray. She also is very kind-hearted. But yesterday I thought about you quite a lot and I miss you.

  21. Dear Father,
I do miss you all the time very greatly but i am now safe a Kenwood.I have made a friend called Elizabeth Murray. She takes care of me and she understands what I’m going through. She tells me all these magnificent(like you did) in all these dramatic voices that she has read before.

    I miss you so much,

    Dido Xx

  22. Dear Father,
I love it here at Kenwood House. The people here are very kind and always do their best to make me feel at home. It is lovely here but I do miss you. How is life at sea? Me and Elizabeth always wonder what you are up to. Me and her get along very well. Sometimes, we go out into the fields to pick fresh fruits from the trees. One day, we went to the fields to pick some new grown fruits. It was a hot summer’s day, and the trees were covered in oranges, apples, plums and lots more. I brought a basket so me and Elizabeth could put the fruits in it. After hours in the blazing sun we sat on a bench near a big bush. I was holding the basket of fruits and Elizabeth was holding a book she borrowed from the library. Then we saw one of the portrait painters pass by with a paintbrush in his hand. He stopped and looked at us. He insisted we stayed right where we were. So we did. He came back with a canvas and a wooden tray with different paints. He told us to pose how we wanted, so I stood up and put a finger to my cheek while Elizabeth held my hand. The painter said it was perfect and started painting. Now we have that portrait of me and Elizabeth hanging on the library wall. Maybe, one day if you had a few days off, you could come and see it.

    Lots of love, Didoxx

  23. 1. They are both smiling.
    2. Dido’s black and Elizabeth’s white.
    3. Dido might be a maid. So Elizabeth knows her.
    4.They are friends.
    5. There’s a black boy who was stopped by a tall women.
    6. Because a white girl (Elizabeth) stopped Dido with a friendly smile on her face and friends with Dido. And it’s also because Elizabeth made friends with a black girl.

  24. Dear Father,

I really miss you but I am being treated really well at Kenwood. I have made friends with a girl called Elizabeth Murray. Apparently, she is my cousin. I didn’t even know I had a cousin!

I even got my own painting with her in front of St. Paul’s Cathedral! We laughed so much after that! When we saw the painting, we thought it was really good. I don’t know how we held that position for that long-it took ages!

I really hope I get to see you soon.

    Best wishes from Dido
